The following imperatives drive the mentorship program:

• The increase in numbers of students (“massification” of college education) and the concomitant collapse of the good old tutorial system have eroded opportunities for close interaction between students and faculty which were the hallmarks of academia.
• Many students therefore suffer from the lack of a “human face” of modern education.
• Students entering universities from secondary schools are younger and less mature thus requiring greater guidance and counseling.
• Even those coming as mature students, the proportion of which is increasing, after a long period outside the classroom, equally require support to adjust to college life.
• Pentecost University’s goal to produce scholars with integrity requires Christian virtues which in turn demands modeling and nurturing beyond academic delivery in the classroom.

The PUC mentorship programme therefore aims at guiding students to get maximal benefit from college education, help them to articulate and achieve their personal ambitions and to prepare them to participate effectively in the world of work. The core subjects dubbed Pentecost Studies (PENTSTUDS) lays the intellectual foundations to that end. The mentorship programme complements PENTSTUDS.
The mentorship program is designed to assists students to manage their academic, social and professional development within the context of small groups whereby a mentor is assigned to a group of about ten students who meet once a week. Pre-selected topics are provided to the groups depending on their level. They are meant to give structure to the mentorship sessions while still
giving room to meet individual and group needs. A deliberate attempt has been made to link the mentorship sessions to the PENTSTUDS program which with the college worship constitutes the three pillars of building PUC products beyond the academic.
